Harry Potter themed party

Hello, fellow Potterheads! Yesterday J.K. Rowling turned 50 and harry turned 35, and on thursday Neville, one of my favourite Harry Potter charcters turned 35, too. My friend and me celebrated these events yesterday. Because I have some simple and cool tips to throw a awesome Harry Potter Party, todays special is a little guide with decor DIY, food ideas and some party games. So let’s get started!

1. DECOR

1.1 Tiny flags, to show your housepride

You’ll need :
Construction paper in: blue (Ravenclaw), red (Gryffindor), yellow ( Hufflepuff) and green (Slytherin) (If you want to do flags for the other schools, then take some light blue and some brown paper)
some thin wooden sticks, or some sticks you have left over from your last barbecue + tape
scisors
and a black pencil (e.g. sharpie)

Cut out long triangles in your desired color. They have to be long, to give them that perfect tiny flag look. After that write the house name (or school name) on your triangles and use the Harry Potter font, you can find on the internet. Or write go badgers/ eagles( yes eagles not ravens)/ lions/ snakes on it! Tape your trangles to the sticks. If you are using barbecue sticks tape the sharp side facing upwards.

1.2 Quotes on pergament

You will need:
some regular white paper
a paintbrush
a black pencil
some coffe/ black tea
a plate
time or a hairdryer

Rip the edges of your paper to make it look even older. Place the paper on a plate so the tea dosen’t go anywhere. Tean paint the coffe/ tea on to your paper (back and front) until you are happy with the color. Then you have to wait at least 24 hours, or if you aren’t that patient like me go ahead and use your hairdryer, but be gentle with the paper don’t let it get too hot! Once your paper is dried ( you know it, when it starts to get hard and feels weird) write your favourite quote on your pergament in the harry potterfont. Now you are done and can hang tons of them in your house for party guests to see, or in your room to decorate it.

1.3 Commonrooms

If you are having a sleepover party this is a nice little decor.

You will need:
Construction paper in: blue (Ravenclaw), red (Gryffindor), yellow ( Hufflepuff) and green (Slytherin) (If you want to do the signs for the other schools, then take some light blue and some brown paper)
a black pen
scisors
Cut out a long strip of the paper of the houses, you and your friends, (or when you are a parent, your little guests) are in and write the places on the paper, where the commonrooms are eg. Ravenclawtower, Slytherindungeons.( And don’t forget to write it in the Harry Potter font!). Once finished just simply hang them up, above where you and your guests will be sleeping.

1.4 House points

You will need:
regular paper
coloured pencils
scisors
Cut out your four vessels, that look like hourglasses. Make some dots, that represent the house points in the color of the house and color the middle to look more like an hourglass. Then hang them up again! Now for the parents: if you want your little guests to behave you can give them points for winning in a game, but if they misbehave, you can take points from their house, once they are sorted. To make the kids care about the system you can award a large bowl of candy to the best house.
For extra DIYs, you can make everything Harry Potter alike: Mirror ( Mirror of Erised), a photo of London (mark the telephone boxes as entrances to the Ministry of magic!

2. FOOD

2.1 “I hope there is pudding” (Luna Lovegood, Order of the Phoenix)

You will need:
Pudding (your favourite flavour)
Sprinkles (stars and silver and gold ones)

Make your pudding and then it’s sprinkletime!

2.2 Amorentia

You will need:
Water (or orange juice)
Pomgrenate syrup
Fill your glass 3/4 full with water or orange juice and put two tablespoons of the syrup in it. Done!

2.3 Food ideas

Take vegetable chips, to make them look otherworldly
Pumpkin soup (it’s summer so there was no pumpkin to buy)
Butterbeer (for those who like it)
Bertie Bott’s every flavoured Beans ( again for those who like to try something different)

3.PARTY GAMES

3.1 Who am I?

You will need:
Sticky notes
Pens
Write the name of a character on the sticky note and place it on the forhead of a different person. Now in a row you have to ask the others questions about you, but they can only answer with yes and no. Once you got yes for an answer you can keep asking until you get no for an answer. The aim is to fond out who you are, before the others. The one to know himself the first is the winner!

3.2 Quiz

You will need:
Paper
a pen
a bowlto keep the questions in

Write different question about the Harry Potter series and fold them. Place them into a bowl and mix them. Then each person picks questions and has to answer them. The one with the most answered questions wins. While doing that you can listen to Wizard songs. My favourite is You stole my cauldron, but you can’t have my heart.

I really hope you liked this post. I took a lot of preperation and so i hope you can forgive my for being a little too late. If you do any of the things I posted, please write me in the comments and tell me I you liked it.

QUESTION! Which house are you in? Can you guess my house?

  1. This party idea seems quite nice (I am also a little Potterhead) maybe I will try some of your tips when I have a party like this.
If you name the sleeping places for Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, what would they be called?
Your explanation are quite good and the pictures can really help I think. But I don’t think you have to write in the HP font.

  2. The thing is that it is mentioned, that Ravenclaw is in a tower and Slytherin in the dungeons. Hufflepuff is near the kitchen and Gryffindoor is just mentioned to be the Gyriffindoor commonroom. I don’t know how to name them. It would be weird to write simply: “Hufflepuff commonroom (near the kitchen)” and “Gyriffindo commonroom”. But if you have any ideas then please share them with me!
Of course you don’t have to use the font! It’s just way “fancier” and “cooler” for a HP party.
